St George Illawarra red-faced after misprinting Jack Bird’s 150th match jersey

St George Illawarra red-faced after misprinting Jack Bird’s 150th match jersey

St George Illawarra were caught with egg on their face after a failed attempt to celebrate Jack Bird’s 150th birthday in the NRL on Sunday.

The Dragons made special jerseys for their star center, who burst into tears when presented with them pre-match.

It took Bird 10 years and three clubs to achieve that goal, with St George deservedly becoming the club he played the most games for on Sunday, his 67th appearance for the Dragons.

There was only one problem: he played for the Dragons, not the Dargons, as his one-of-a-kind sweater said.

“JACK BIRD.” 150TH NRL MATCH. SHARKS AGAINST DARGONS. POINTSBET STADIUM. SUNDAY MAY 5, 2024,” said the specially marked jumper.

It didn’t take long for fans online to notice.

“This can’t be real, can it? Serious question,” the Red V podcast wrote about this error.

An account dedicated to a Bulldogs podcast and forums said: “Poor Jack Bird has a horrible spelling mistake on the marking jersey. At least his jersey will be auctioned off for a decent amount.

Even worse for the Red-Faced Dragons, this isn’t the first time they’ve done this.

Just over two weeks ago, Fa’amanu Brown made his club debut for St George, just one day after signing for the club.

Brown spoke at length to the team in the rooms before the match and was presented with his sweater by Raymond Faitala-Mariner.

But once again, the jumper was wrong.

“FA’AMANU BROWN. THE BEGINNINGS OF THE DRAGONS. DRAGONS versus WARRIORS. WIN THE STADIUM. JUNE 19, 2024,” said the jumper.

The match took place two weeks ago, in April – not June.

It should be noted that other players’ stage jumps this season were printed correctly.

Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Bird or Brown.
