Former Duck Bucky Irving brings competition to Buccaneers running back room

TAMPA BAY, Fla. – The NFL Draft is over, and while much has been made of Oregon quarterback Bo Nix being drafted 12th overall by the Denver Broncos, the Ducks had six players selected on the last day of the draft.

Players selected on the final day aren’t guaranteed a spot on the roster, but it appears one former Duck found himself in an ideal situation.

Running back Bucky Irving was drafted in the 4th round by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Tampa Bay running backs coach Skip Peete said a player of Bucky’s talent would create competition for a spot in the Buccaneers backfield.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re a five-year guy, a rookie or a second-year guy,” Peete said. “The best guy to help us win and do the best job is going to play. I think Bucky was recruited to come here and help this football team, so obviously he’ll have an opportunity to show what he can do “I think it will create a lot of competition in the room, which is a good thing for everyone.”

Irving rushed for over a thousand yards in each of his two seasons with the Ducks.
