Chase stars reveal biggest mistake they could make on ITV show

Chase stars Darragh Ennis and Shaun Wallace have revealed the biggest mistake a Chaser can make on the ITV quiz show: jumping into their co-stars’ specialist topics.

The pair spilled the beans as they appeared on ITV’s This Morning ahead of new series of spin-off show Beat The Chasers, which sees challengers go head-to-head with not one but six Chasers. Wallace said everyone has subjects they are strong in, with Anne “the Governess” Hegerty being good at literature, Jenny “the Vixen” Ryan excelling at pop culture and Paul “the Sinner” Sinha being “good at everything “.

And it seems that diving into someone else’s category is a pursuit, no no.

“There was one episode where Jenny very visibly hit Paul,” Wallace said.

“Because he launched into one of his special topics and got it wrong,” Ennis added.

“That’s the big mistake,” Ennis told the show’s hosts, Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard. “If no one knows, you’re guessing.” But if it’s someone else’s special and you’re not sure about it, you let it be.

“We will always look for the answer if we know it,” said Wallace, known as “The Dark Destroyer” on the ITV program. “But if we hesitate a little and it’s a specialized subject…”

Ennis also told how he took part in The Chase before becoming one of the Chasers, revealing that he only entered the ITV competition because he needed a new backdoor for his house and that ‘he couldn’t afford it.

“We had a new house and there was no back door, we just opened onto the veranda,” he explained. “It was freezing cold and we didn’t have enough money, we had just bought a house. So I said, “I’m going to take a quiz and try to win some money.”

He ended up winning a few thousand pounds and revealed people online had started a fundraiser to help him get the rest of the money for the work he needed at home.

Then, in 2020, Ennis became one of the hunters on the show hosted by Bradley Walsh. He is known as Darragh ‘The Menace’ Ennis on the programme.
