Another essential element of the series is Dunn being manipulated and raped by an older man working in the entertainment industry, played by Tom Goodman-Hill.

The critically acclaimed British series has been a runaway success and has been in Netflix’s top 10 for four weeks so far.

The context

Baby reindeer is based on Gadd’s autobiographical play of the same name, which was a hit at the Edinburgh Fringe festival in Scotland in 2019.

The Netflix series has gone viral since its release on April 11, and many netizens have speculated about Gadd’s story, including the identities of the real people behind the characters of Martha and the writer who sexually assaulted Gadd. But Gadd asked his fans on his Instagram Stories to respect people’s privacy.

“Please don’t speculate on who the real people might be. That’s not the point of our show. Lots of love, Richard,” he wrote.

Gadd explained how close the series was to his own reality Forbes in April that the story was “100% emotionally true.”

He also wrote a long essay about his decision to turn his experiences with Martha into a comedy series, which was eventually made into a Netflix series.

What we know

On May 8, journalist Piers Morgan announced on his X account (formerly Twitter) that he would be interviewing a woman who claimed Martha was based on her.

“Baby Reindeer’s ‘Real Martha’ tomorrow on Piers Morgan, uncensored, sent from iPhone,” reads the text. video uploaded to his account.

Martha’s frenetic lyrics are a key aspect of Baby reindeer and “sent from my iPhone” is a reference to the series. The character types the words every time he emails Dunn.
