Get ready with me for the Met Gala.

Every year at the Met Gala,

me and my mother watch tv

and we evaluate everyone’s outfits.

Literally, like, every year.

So just me being at the Mets now to attend,

I know my mom will probably watch

and judge the dresses,

and she will be able to judge mine this year.

So it’s cool.

I am very excited.

I’m so excited.

I dreamed of this day

for years and years and years and years.

So it’s finally the day.

The theme was scary.

But after I started researching

and discover what the theme really means,

it became easier to see

and imagine what we wanted to do.

We just knew we wanted to do something special.

Like, Yo!

We called each other on the phone every other day.

I’m trying to figure out what.

(both laugh)

How are we going to eat these people?

The concept is time, but not literally.

We play with the sand of the hourglass, the sand of time.

There are many things

which we are trying to do for the first time.

Have Pat on makeup, body makeup, haircut,

tight, like we’re trying to do it

lots of special things for this moment.

(Both) Throw it (laughing).

Before big events, I usually pray all the time.

I just like to be calm and treat it like a normal day.

Because if I make it seem like, oh, this is a big deal,

then I get nervous.

The whole Met Gala is a crazy event.

I always wanted to be invited.

So we had some ideas with the hair,

but I don’t know, I feel like we’re kind of

I naturally landed on this hairstyle.

Like, it just came to us and we knew,

Hey, we have to keep this short.

For this look, you have to keep it short.

This is the only way to eat caviar.

Oh yes. (the team laughs)

How is it?

It is inspired by sand.

I still consider sand to be gold,

so we can use some,

just kind of accents and gives a nice wing, nice lift.

She just wants a really ripped look.

We want to be ripped away.

Yes, always snatched. Mm-hmm.

We had an original look, meant to be more natural.

And she kind of said, You know what?

More snatched.

And that’s what we do.

Literally, Pat McGrath is putting on makeup.

So I was like, there’s no way

we’re just going to make a simple face.

You have to play.

And Pat’s team came up with this…

I found out I had to be alone and, oh my God,

It already stressed me out because, hey.

In fact Olivier and the Balmain team

invented this incredible new technique

a way to transform real grains of sand

like real fabric.

And so when I saw that, I was completely sold.

I just thought it was the perfect way

doing our first Met with something this innovative

and very, very Tyla too.

Someone came out, yeah.

Have you ever had so many people working on you at the same time?

(Crew) Yes.

Yeah, but it’s a little crazy.

(the team laughs)
