Air India Express crisis: 74 flights canceled today, airline takes major action against crew

The mass sick leave was reportedly prompted by employee dissatisfaction over the merger of Air India and Air Asia, leading to allegations of mistreatment against the crew. As a result, more than 100 flights were canceled between Tuesday evening and Wednesday, affecting around 15,000 passengers.

Air India Express has announced the reduction of its flight services until May 13.

New Delhi: Up to 74 flights with Air India Express were canceled today amid the ongoing crisis that erupted after more than 100 cabin crew took “collective sick leave” on Wednesday.

The massive sick leave was reportedly driven by employee discontent over the merger of Air India and Air Asia, leading to allegations of mistreatment against the crew. As a result, more than 100 flights were canceled on the first day, affecting around 15,000 passengers.

Earlier, the airline announced the reduction of its flight services until May 13. The airline’s CEO Aloke Singh said “disruptions have spread across the network, forcing us to reduce schedules over the coming days.”
