Traffic stop leads to drug arrest, meth seizure

Travis James Wise, 31, of Scott Trail in Morganton, was arrested by Morganton Public Safety Officers. He is charged with felony possession of a Schedule II controlled substance as well as misdemeanor counts of possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting, delaying or obstructing a public official. A second suspect was also arrested in this case and charged with a minor offense.

On May 2, a public safety officer conducted a traffic stop on Burkemont Avenue in Morganton. The officer stopped a 2005 Subaru Legacy driven by a driver whose license had been revoked. The officer made contact with the occupants of the vehicle, including the driver, Travis James Wise. During the investigation, police seized 0.5 grams of methamphetamine as well as items including a plastic bag containing fentanyl residue.

Wise was previously charged in Burke County with two counts of driving while license revoked. District court hearings are scheduled for May 24 and 31 on those charges. Following his May 2 arrest, Wise was booked into the Burke County Jail under $5,500 secured bond. He was not listed as in custody in Burke County earlier today (May 9). A district court date on the charges filed on this date is scheduled for May 24.
