A popular football expert believes criticism of Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson has been unfair given his goal return in the 2023/24 campaign.

Having scored 16 goals in 41 matches in all competitions so far, the Senegalese star has been one of the most talked about strikers in English football this season.

Jackson joined the Blues from La Liga side Villareal ahead of the 23/24 campaign and was often cited for his missed chances in front of goal. According to Sky Sports pundit Stephen Warnock, criticism of Jackson has been halved because his goalscoring record in his first season in the Premier League was better than that of Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

“I think we were maybe a bit harsh on Nicolas Jackson at times because he missed so many opportunities,” Warnock told Sky Sports, according to Chelsea News.

“His return in his first season in the Premier League was better than Didier Drogba’s,” he told Sky Sports.

“Maybe he should have scored 5-10 more goals because of the chances that were created for him.

“I think that’s how harsh the criticism can be towards certain players.”
