Arsenal consider shock move to bring Wojciech Szczesny back to Emirates as possible replacement for Aaron Ramsdale

Arsenal cult hero Wojciech Szczesny is on a three-man shortlist to potentially replace Aaron Ramsdale, according to talkSPORT.

The 34-year-old was a big fan favorite during his time at the Emirates after coming through the academy to become the club’s number one.

Mikel Arteta could look to bring his former teammate Szczesny back to the Emirates

A teammate of boss Mikel Arteta, the Poland international made 181 appearances for the Gunners after breaking into the team in the 2010/11 season.

After falling out of favor under Arsène Wenger, resulting in a two-year loan spell at Roma, he joined Juventus in 2017.

But he could now be in line for a shock return to north London as Arsenal search for a back-up goalkeeper in the event of Ramsdale’s departure this summer.

The England goalkeeper is believed to be on Newcastle’s radar, with the 25-year-old seeking first-team football next season.

Ramsdale lost his place in the lineup to David Raya this campaign, with Arsenal set to turn the Spaniard’s loan deal into a permanent £25 million move.

And that has led Arsenal to look for a replacement – ideally a local player to help them comply with Premier League rules.

With Szczesny having graduated from Hale End, he fits the bill, although it remains to be seen whether he would be happy to be Raya’s replacement, with the player remaining Juve’s first-choice option between the sticks.

Brighton’s Jason Steele, who has rotated in goal with Bart Verbruggen this season, is also admired by Arsenal.

Steele also previously played with Raya with the Blackburn duo earlier in their career.

Anthony Patterson has also attracted the attention of Arsenal after impressing as Sunderland’s number one in the last two campaigns.

Piers Morgan promises to pay for a Tottenham bus parade and wear a Spurs shirt if they beat Manchester City and finish fourth to help Arsenal win the Premier League title.

The summer promises to be busy at the Emirates, with the arrival of a high-level striker.

And Arteta is also looking to strengthen his midfield, with Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes linked with a stunning switch.
