Cannock fires live as witnesses describe ‘explosion’ and businesses evacuated

Glynn Luznyj, Assistant Chief Fire Officer at Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “The fire is at the distribution warehouse behind me, located on Cley Road in Cannock. This is clearly a large, significant fire that engulfs the entire building.

“Our firefighters have been on scene since the early hours of this morning, where they have taken action to ensure the fire is brought under control and mitigate any further spread of the fire and to attempt to reduce the impact of the large plume of smoke, which affects the region.

“On scene we have a multi-agency response supporting our firefighters, drawn from a number of other agencies, who are all working together to ensure the incident is contained and resolved as completely and quickly as possible.

“In the meantime, I would like to assure residents and businesses in the area that we are doing all we can to resolve the incident as quickly as possible. Unfortunately, this means there will be a significant plume of smoke affecting parts of The area.

“Thankfully the weather conditions are positive and they are increasing the temperature and mitigating this impact on proximity to local businesses, schools and residents, but if anyone feels affected by the plume of smoke, please stay away from it, please close your doors and windows and stay safe, thank you very much.
