Bad weather hits the south; DR teams are ready

Extreme weather conditions – including tornadoes, torrential rains and flash floods – have affected parts of the South in recent days.

At least three deaths caused by the May 8 storms had been reported in the region as of press time. Disaster Relief volunteer teams are assessing the damage after thousands of people were left without power in states including Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia. “It’s hard to know where to start because the damage is so enormous,” said Wes Jones, disaster relief specialist for the Tennessee Baptist Mission Board.

Disaster relief teams are also busy helping residents affected by storms in Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Texas, according to Coy Webb of Send Relief. (Baptiste and Réflecteur contributed)
