Advanced protection offered by the HD Smart Vest equipped with an airbag – Hometown Focus

The new Harley-Davidson® Smart Vest combines comfort and style with advanced airbag protection to give riders peace of mind. Powered by Dainese Technology’s proven D-air®, the Harley-Davidson ® Smart Vest is designed to instantly deploy in the event of a crash across the chest and central back area to add potential impact absorption.

Dainese D-air airbag technology is based on more than 30 years of research. A series of sensors monitor what is happening around the rider more than 1,000 times per second and constantly process the data in real time. It is designed to deploy instantly upon impact in the event of a collision with objects, other vehicles or in the event of a rear-end collision.

The airbag covers the chest and central back area and forms an airtight seal with the rider’s helmet. The system is powered by a rechargeable battery with a battery life of up to 26 hours and charges via a common USB socket.

The Harley-Davidson® Men’s Smart Vest and Harley-Davidson® Women’s Smart Vest feature a perforated black thick cowhide leather shell for cool airflow and stretch side panels for superior comfort.

Both models feature zippered handwarmer pockets, 3M™ Scotchlite™ Black Carbon reflective material to improve nighttime visibility and embossed Harley Davidson branding on the rear shoulders. The slim design limits bulk and the vest can be worn under or over a riding jacket.

An indicator light on the left chest signals the status of the jacket. When the vest is zipped and the power tab switch is closed, the LED colors indicate battery status and flash blue when the vest is ready to trigger the airbag if necessary. The vest also vibrates to indicate that it is ready.

The vest is activated when it detects the vibration of a running motorcycle engine or when the speed exceeds 10 km/h. The vest will not deploy away from a moving motorcycle, if the user were to trip and fall, for example. If the vest is deployed, the airbag and both gas generators must be replaced by a selected authorized Harley-Davidson dealer.
