NC MPs acted as silent spectators after August 5, 2019: Sajad Lone

Srinagar, May 10

People’s Conference (PC) President Sajad Gani Lone today said the three National Conference (NC) MPs acted as silent spectators in Parliament after the August 5, 2019 developments.

According to a press release, he was addressing a public convention in Pattan. CP General Secretary Imran Reza Ansari, senior leader Abid Ansari and State Secretary Mohammad Abbas Wani also addressed the people.

Lone said: “I urge NC leaders to simply provide a transparent account of their parliamentary achievements for the public good. Throughout their tenure in Parliament, especially after August 5, they acted as silent spectators, neglecting to defend the rights and aspirations of our people. Their inaction disqualifies them from seeking re-election to Parliament.”

Expressing the importance of the ongoing elections, Lone stressed that they were the most crucial since 1947, especially given the absence of parliamentary elections.

Referring to the rigging of 1987, he claimed that the NC bears the responsibility for the emergence of gun culture and the subsequent bloodshed in Kashmir. “The social divide in Kashmir was glaring,” he said.

“A part of the population endured incessant persecution: murders, torture, hangings and constant trauma during controls, checks and repression. This represented the vast majority, of which I am one. In contrast, the NC represents the 1 percent who won and exploited the rest,” Lone said.

He went on to highlight the repercussions of choosing such oppressors as representatives. “We cannot afford to continue to choose NC to lead us. This would mean perpetuating the chains of slavery on our society,” said the PC president.

“I promise that once I enter Parliament, all oppressive laws instituted by the National Conference will be eradicated. We refuse to compromise on our dignity,” Lone vowed.

Speaking to Omar Abdullah, Lone highlighted the stark contrast between his roots and those of Omar, whom he described as a tourist. He pointed out that Omar’s oppressive regime brought him notoriety and prevented him from claiming to be the savior of the people.
