It can be quite infuriating when people don’t listen.

Especially when we always tell them the same thing…

It’s enough to drive a person crazy!

And this young woman could no longer take care of one of her friends so she really gave up.

Did she behave like a *******?

Let’s see what’s going on here…

“I am a first year engineering student. This does not take place in the United States, so tuition for a 4-year degree is around $35,000.

Her friend annoys her…

My friend (18F) who we’ll call Jane won’t stop complaining and telling everyone we meet that my parents are loaded. When she first came to my house, she kept making comments about how it must be so nice to have parents who pay for everything so that I can afford to live in such a beautiful apartment. The problem is they do NOT pay for everything.

My parents aren’t even particularly well off??? My mother is a schoolteacher who works part time and my father is an engineer in such a bad field that he makes less than her right now. When I was born, my parents opened a college savings account for me and added to it very steadily.

The agreement between my parents and I was always that I would move out after high school, they would cover the tuition, and I would take care of everything else.

She pulls her own weight.

I understand that I’m very lucky that my parents cover tuition, but I still cover rent, utilities, wifi, food, and literally everything I buy (which is considerably more expensive than annual tuition fees where I live).

I was able to do this because I worked since I was 15, had great summer jobs, and applied for no less than 40 scholarships during my senior year of high school.

I explained this to Jane. She literally absorbs none of it.

When we go out for a snack, she tries to make me pay for her because “my parents pay for everything and I have a lot of money.” She will constantly make comments about how my life is easy because I get an allowance from my parents (I don’t) in front of other people, very loudly.

When we go to study she’ll say “we should go to OP’s house, her parents bought her this fancy apartment”. (they didn’t) She tells me how great it is to not have a budget (I do, I have a tight budget that has VERY little wiggle room to be able to offer a place near campus).

I tried talking to her about it, and nothing changed.

This all came to a head the other day when she told our group of friends that I could drive us to the mall because my parents bought me a car. My parents didn’t buy me a car. I don’t even own a car. I don’t know why she would say that.

She finally had enough.

I blew up at her and called her a “jealous asshole who’s so high in her own shit she hasn’t seen reality in years” and said if she can’t conceptualize the fact that I pay for my own sex through my own hard work, maybe that says more about her than it does about me.

She left pretty quickly and it was super awkward after that.

She was a total jerk, but some of my friends say I went too far and should have been calmer and nicer.

Well, I hope she learned her lesson!
