Man allegedly fled on dirt bike after attempted traffic stop by police

MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) – The Janesville Police Department says a man allegedly fled from officers on a dirt bike after police tried to stop him Friday evening.

Around 11 p.m., a Janesville police officer attempted to stop a dirt bike that was apparently traveling without its headlights on. JPD reports that after the officer turned on his patrol car’s lights, the dirt bike fled and was speeding through the community.

According to JPD, the officer did not pursue the man.

Police said officers checked the area where the dirt bike fled. The man allegedly continued to recklessly move away from the police, even though they did not attempt to arrest him.

Officers then found a 20-year-old Janesville man and the dirt bike in the 1300 block of Mineral Point Avenue. The man was arrested for fleeing/eluding police and a felony probation violation. He is being held at the Rock County Jail.

According to JPD, the man is currently on probation for robbery with use of force and operating a vehicle without consent as a passenger.
