What Irish teenagers are watching on TikTok – The Irish Times

From cute dance videos to anti-feminist and racist videos, the social media app is becoming a growing part of young people’s lives. There are concerns, however, about lack of sleep, mental health, attention span – and the messages these young teens receive over and over again.

Irish Times parenting columnist Jen Hogan and journalist Patrick Freyne spent time with a group of teenagers, looking over their shoulders as they scrolled through TikTok for hours and talked to them about their relationship with the Chinese application. They tell In the News how disconnected adults are from children’s online activities.
