IRON MOUNTAIN — The dust is settling at Holiday Kitchen and owner Bill Neuens, along with general manager Lisa Counter, are set to unveil a new look for the long-standing establishment.

“Everything was outdated. Nothing had been done for who knows how long. The benches and chairs were cracked, so it was about time. » » said Counter.

For two and a half months, Holiday Kitchen has undergone a complete facelift. Improvements include new windows, ceilings, walls, flooring – even the tables and booths are new.

Planning for the upgrade began in November, when Counter worked with a designer to come up with a layout for the new and improved dining areas.

In addition to the front-of-house improvements, the kitchen also received a larger line, new coolers and freezers to make service more efficient.

Although it presented a challenge, Holiday Kitchen remained open throughout the renovation, closing one dining room at a time when needed. Counter said it’s important that the restaurant stays open not only for its loyal customers, but also for the nearly 40 people who work at Holiday Kitchen.

They appreciated their customers’ patience and kindness throughout the renovation process, she said.

“So far we have received wonderful feedback from our customers” she says. “Everyone likes colors and likes to feel comfortable.”

Even though Holiday Kitchen has a new look, the food remains as good as before. New menus were developed in November and added some items, but Counter said Holiday Kitchen customers — a number of whom stop by almost daily — would be upset if one of their favorites were to disappear.

“There is something for everyone on the menu” she says. “We have our hot meals, hot turkey and hot beef, we have chopped sandwiches. We have things for children.

Holiday Kitchen is well known for its unlimited soups and salads, Counter said. Each month offers a new salad.

Holiday Kitchen bakes its own homemade bread every half hour. They also make their own ranch dressing from a secret recipe.

Friday is dedicated to fish and Holiday Kitchen offers unlimited cod, perch or walleye. Salmon and shrimp are also available.

Now that construction is complete, on Sundays there will be a brunch buffet with breakfast and lunch favorites, plus a little something different each week.

As for desserts, the pie of the month of May consists of cheesecake with strawberry cream and brownie, in addition to a wide choice of regular dishes.

The grand reopening will take place Wednesday from noon to 2 p.m. Frog Country Radio 101.5 WJNR will broadcast live and prizes will be given away, including gift cards to Holiday Kitchen, The Ice Cream Barn, Midtown QuickLube, Neucup and some of Holiday’s vendors.

The grand reopening will include breakfast, lunch and dinner specials, as well as the unveiling of a new salad: strawberries with sweet pecans, feta cheese and chicken.

Counter said Holiday Kitchen will soon offer delivery through its own delivery drivers.

Holiday Kitchen is located at 1605 S. Stephenson Ave. in Iron Mountain and is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
