Peoria traffic stop leads to phantom gun arrests

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A traffic stop Friday evening led to the arrest of a man for alleged possession of a phantom gun and numerous other charges.

According to Peoria police, the car was stopped by officers near the intersection of Northeast Monroe and Hancock streets shortly before 8:30 p.m. for a traffic violation.


While talking with the driver, the passenger, Aurice Leflore, 34, fled the car and ran on foot. While fleeing, a loaded Polymer 80 handgun (ghost gun) fell from his waistband and was taken as evidence by police.

It was not until an hour later that Leflore was arrested in the 700 block of Greenleaf Street and taken into custody.

After questioning Leflore, Peoria police booked him into the Peoria County Jail on charges of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm without a valid FOID card, obstruction of justice, unlawful possession of a firearm. controlled substance, resisting police, unlawful possession of a firearm with obliterated identification and two active warrants.

He has since been released with a summons to appear in court at a later date.
