Silent Awards booth $25,000 in grants for anti-bullying efforts

Represent for the Silent Awards scholarships every two years and have been for the past four years, having started the program in 2021. They offer three different types of scholarships which they award to five recipients. Each recipient receives a $5,000 sotck exchange. The three scholarships and their spring 2024 winners include:

Ty Smalley Memorial Scholarship –
At age 11, Ty committed suicide due to bullying. His parents, Kirk and Laura Smalley founded Stand for the Silent and made it her mission to help raise awareness about this issue so that other parents never have to endure what they did. The two scholarship winners this year are Trooper McKinley of Duquoin, Illinoisa high school student and humanitarian society volunteer, and Bryce Hampton of Bozeman, Montanaa senior baseball player in high school.

Laura Smalley Memorial Scholarship –
She was co-founder of Stand for the Silent and Ty’s mother. She passed away in 2020. This scholarship was established in her memory for those who help fulfill the Stand for the Silent mission and raise awareness of the dangers of bullying. Among the two spring 2024 winners are Macy barefoot Since Noble, OKhonor society student and dual athlete playing volleyball and basketball, and Nyra Frierson of Cleveland, Ohiosenior member of the marching band and treasurer of the student council.

President’s Choice Scholarship –
This is a unique scholarship that the organization awards to someone who is making an impact at their school. The spring 2024 winner is Leslie GraySince Spiro, Oklahoma. Gray is a student at University of Arkansas Forth Smith, and is the mother of four children.

Smalley and his wife, Laura, started the organization after their 11-year-old son took his own life due to bullying. They turned their pain and loss into a mission to help others. He travels the country giving presentations on bullying in schools, providing bullying prevention, distributing scholarships, providing intervention strategies, and more.
