49ers news: 2 players waived to make way for Chris Hubbard and Shakel Brown

The San Francisco 49ers officially announced the signing of defensive tackle Shakel Brown and offensive tackle Chris Hubbard to one-year contracts. The corresponding decision was to waive defensive lineman Earnest Brown IV and offensive lineman Corey Luciano. This brings the Niners under the 90 player limit.

Luciano spent time on the practice squad last season and was elevated to the active roster in November. Luciano appeared in two games with the 49ers after initially signing with the team as an undrafted free agent in May 2023 following the NFL Draft. Brown IV signed a futures contract with San Francisco last February.

The 49ers had to keep an eye on Shakel Brown. He was in Santa Clara for a preliminary visit. As was the case with the 2024 draft class, Brown is on the older side for a prospect entering the NFL. He is 25 years old and entering his second season.

Hubbard is not only competing for a spot on the team, but also for playing time. This will be Hubbard’s 11th season in the NFL. It’s worth noting that he also has playoff experience. He started six playoff games. Last year, he started the first nine games of the season for the Tennessee Titans. We’ll be reaching out to Titans fans to learn more about Hubbard.
