The information and intelligence group announces its party

Newswise — On Tuesday, the Grainger College of Engineering News and Intelligence Group at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign announced that it has joined more than 200 of the nation’s leading players in artificial intelligence (AI) to participate in a Ministry of Commerce initiative aimed at supporting the development and deployment of reliable and secure AI. Created by the Department of Commerce’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) on February 8, 2024 when Illinois joined as a provisional member, the US AI Safety Institute Consortium (AISIC) brings together creators and users of AI, academics, government and industry researchers. , and civil society organizations to fulfill this mission.

“The Information and Intelligence Group that I lead is an interdisciplinary research group perfectly located within the Grainger College of Engineering, where our collaborative approach to computational research leads to AI development that is fundamental, revolutionary and ethically sound,” said Illinois engineering professor Grainger. We are excited to join other academic entities, corporate members, and organizations to contribute to public policy and build the future of AI in a socially responsible way.

The consortium includes more than 200 member companies and organizations that are on the front lines of developing and using AI systems, as well as civil society teams and academics who are building a fundamental understanding of how AI AI can and will transform our society. These entities represent the country’s largest companies and its innovative startups; the creators of the world’s most advanced AI systems and hardware; key members of civil society and the academic community; and representatives from professions deeply engaged in the use of AI today. The consortium also includes state and local governments, as well as nonprofit organizations. The consortium will also work with organizations from like-minded countries who have a key role to play in establishing interoperable and effective security worldwide.
