Mangaluru: Cancellation and delays of Air India Express (AIE) flights due to the crew rostering system glitch continued for the second day on Thursday, leaving several passengers inconvenienced. The airline canceled some flights on Wednesday as it struggled with issues with its crew scheduling system. On Wednesday, the AIE Mangaluru-Bengaluru flight was canceled, while there was a delay of four hours each for Mangaluru-Dammam, Doha and Dubai flights. The Mangaluru-Jeddah flight was delayed by seven hours and the flight to Tiruchirappalli faced a delay of six hours. All Gulf-bound flights and one domestic flight were delayed by four to seven hours on Wednesday, and the Bangalore flight was cancelled. The Dubai-Mangaluru flight was canceled and all international flight departures and arrivals were delayed by several hours on Thursday. The Jeddah-Mangaluru flight, which was scheduled to land at 3:45 am, landed at 9:32 am. Similarly, the Dammam-Mangaluru flight arrived at 8:41 am, when its scheduled time was 5 am, and the Dubai-Mangaluru flight was cancelled. The Mangaluru-Muscat flight was delayed by two hours. Bahrain flight postponedLater in the day, the Mangaluru-Bahrain flight, which was scheduled to depart at 6:45 p.m., was postponed to 8:25 p.m., and the Muscat-Mangaluru flight, which was scheduled to arrive at 5:30 p.m., was delayed to 6:45 p.m. “The delay and cancellation is due to AIE, the Tata group-owned air carrier, switching to a new roster system,” sources added. At the same time, frequent delays and cancellations worry expatriates returning from their vacations in the Gulf countries. “I booked a plane ticket to Dubai on Saturday. Now I am worried whether the flights will operate normally or not,” said Sharath D’Souza, who works in Dubai.
