Man caught selling machine gun

MANILA, Philippines — A suspected arms dealer was arrested Wednesday night for allegedly selling a submachine gun in Quezon City.

Alvin Castillo, 35, was apprehended by police during an operation in Barangay Greater Fairview around 8:10 p.m., said Quezon City Police District (QCPD) director Brig. » declared General Redrico Maranan.

Maranan said Castillo met with undercover officers from the QCPD Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit outside a school for the sale of a machine gun.

After he allegedly accepted P9,000 in marked money, police took Castillo into custody.

Police also confiscated his cellphone, which will be examined by investigators for leads on his other illicit transactions, as well as the machine gun.

Castillo was charged with violating Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, before the City Attorney’s Office.
