Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door Online Pre-Orders Apparently Canceled (US)

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door releases for Switch next week and there are new reports of online pre-order cancellations at Walmart in the US.

It’s unclear how “widespread” this is, but according to several stories, customers have received emails mentioning that this particular version of Switch will only be offered “in-store.” Here is part of that message (via ‘Wario64’ on X):

Walmart: “We know you’ve been eager to purchase Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (Nintendo Switch) online. At this time, Nintendo will only carry this item in-store. Although your pre-order has been canceled, we expect to have this item in stores on release day, May 23, 2024. We hope you can stop by!”

As noted in the email, Walmart is offering customers $25 off their next purchase as an apology.

According to GoNintendo, Amazon also recently canceled some Switch game pre-orders, including Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. The same source has reached out to Nintendo for comment, so if we hear any updates we’ll pass along the news.
