A former colleague of Stewart’s, Keith Boykin, shared a touching tribute to the late commentator.

“I am shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of @CNN
political commentator Alice Stewart.

“Alice and I worked together at CNN for years and she was my favorite Republican.

“We disagreed on almost every issue, but she was always courteous and respectful.

‘May she rest in peace.’

“Our hearts are heavy”

In a memo sent to staff following news of his death, network CEO Mark Thompson described Stewart as “a dear friend and colleague,” according to CNN.

“Alice was a dear friend and colleague to all of us at CNN,” Mark Thompson, the network’s CEO, said in an email to staff Saturday.

“A political veteran and Emmy Award-winning journalist who brought an incomparable spark to CNN’s coverage, known in our offices not only for her political savvy, but also for her unwavering kindness.

“Our hearts are heavy as we mourn such an extraordinary loss.”

Cause of death unknown

Stewart’s cause of death remains undetermined.

Authorities do not suspect any foul play.

According to officials at the scene, Stewart may have suffered a medical emergency, CNN reported.

CNN commentator dies

Stewart’s body was discovered early Saturday morning in the Bellevue neighborhood of northern Virginia, according to law enforcement.
