Law Week: Volunteer Lawyers Offer Free Legal Information to Public at Maui Sunday Market: Maui Now

The Young Lawyers Division (YLD) of the Hawaii State Bar Association is celebrating Law Week from Sunday, May 19 through Saturday, May 25, 2024 by helping to educate the public on various areas of law and providing information free legal.

The event has been celebrated annually in May since 1961, when Congress passed a joint resolution recognizing Law Day in the United States. The Legal Hotline exists to help members of the public who may not have access to an attorney and need general advice or referrals to nonprofit organizations that can help them resolve their legal issues .

During Law Week, the hotline is open 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. all week, Monday, May 20 through Friday, May 24, 2024. Call 808-537-1868 to speak with an attorney. Additionally, the YLD announced that an Ask-a-Lawyer booth will be set up at the Maui Sunday Market (65 W Ka’ahumanu Avenue) in Kahului from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, May 19.

Question booths for a lawyer:

Volunteer attorneys will be available to give the public free in-person legal information on a variety of legal topics including landlord/tenant, family law (divorce/child custody), bankruptcy and estate planning at the following locations :

May 19, 2024 – Maui Sunday Market, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
May 25, 2024 – Honolulu Kaka’ako Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to noon.
May 25, 2024 – Kauaʻi Grove Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to noon.
May 25, 2024 – KTA Hilo 50 East Puainako Street, 8 a.m. to noon.
May 25, 2024 – KTA Kona Coast Mall from 8 a.m. to noon.
