Donald Trump mocks Joe Biden after teleprompter error during his own speech

Donald Trump mercilessly ridiculed Joe Biden following a technical glitch at the start of his speech in Minnesota. The ex-president made the most of his day off from the ongoing trial to celebrate his son Barron’s high school graduation in Florida before heading to a GOP fundraiser.

Trump was the featured speaker at the Lincoln Reagan dinner in St. Paul, coinciding with the state’s Republican convention, aiming to make waves in the typically Democratic stronghold. “Before I got up, the teleprompter fell,” he joked, adding, “Good job, guys. Then they want to know why I’m not paying the bill.”

Taking the opportunity, Trump ridiculed Biden, whom he is expected to face in a one-on-one debate next month, after Biden was escorted off stage at the White House on Monday after delivering remarks “brief and incoherent notes” following a speech, reports Express US.

He continued: “Suppose this happened to Biden. He would say this: ‘goodbye’. He would leave.”

“I’m going to stay with you for an hour, we’re going to have fun.” Later, Trump noticed the scene’s continuing leftward tilt and exclaimed: This place is falling apart. What a c—-y entrepreneur.

“This idiot is really weak. I’ve never had this happen before, for a podium to collapse.”

Trump is using the free time granted by the trial judge for graduation to advance his campaign in Minnesota, a state he believes he can win in the upcoming November fight against Biden.

No Republican presidential candidate has managed to eke out a victory in Minnesota since Richard Nixon’s victory in 1972. However, Trump nearly turned things around in 2016, falling short by just 1.5 percentage points to the Democratic Hillary Clinton.

In 2020, Trump made several visits to Minnesota, but Biden still managed to beat him by more than 7 percentage points. David Hann, chairman of the Minnesota Republican Party, expressed in an interview his belief that Trump could win the state. “I think this is something Trump wants to do. He believes this is a state he can win. We think that’s the case, too,” he said.

Democratic U.S. Sen. Tina Smith of Minnesota, who is a Biden ally, rejected the claims in an interview. She said that if the Trump campaign thinks he can win the state, it is “grazing at straws.”

“The Biden campaign is going to work hard for every vote,” Smith said. “We’re going to engage with voters across the state. But I think Minnesota voters are going to choose President Biden.”

Hann co-hosted a dinner Friday alongside Trump’s campaign chairman, House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, who represents a district in central Minnesota. Hann credited Emmer with playing a crucial role in bringing the former president to Minnesota.

The dinner took place on the occasion of the party’s state convention. Tickets for the event started at $500, with VIP tables for 10 people, including three photo ops with Trump, costing up to $100,000.

Although Hann did not disclose the expected fundraising amount for the event, he expects a full house of around 1,400 attendees.

Hann said all proceeds from dinner tickets will be donated to the state party. However, he added that some funds raised from the photo ops could be dedicated to the Trump campaign.
