Dumbarton school teacher filmed scolding pupils

The incident took place recently at Vale of Leven Academy, apparently because second-year students failed to complete their homework on time.

As well as questioning the children’s future prospects, the teacher in question can also be heard asking a child’s name before telling them to “get out of their face and disappear”.

Vale of Leven Academy confirmed in an email that West Dunbartonshire Council’s (WDC) education department is investigating the incident.

The images were filmed by a student present in the room at the time.

“Class, if you can’t do your homework, what’s going to happen is each of your parents at home will receive a message from me today, a personal email signed from me expressing my “I’m sorry you didn’t turn in your homework,” the teacher can be heard shouting.

“They can have a nice chat this evening and tell you that you are a National 4 (level below able to take an exam).

“There’s nothing wrong with National 4, it will get you a good job but it won’t get you into university and it will never get you into university or an apprenticeship.”

She dismissed some members of the class after demanding their names.

A student then says, “You don’t need to yell in my face.”

To which the teacher responds: “I’m not shouting, I’m just talking loudly.

“If you want to hear me scream, I’ll show you a demonstration?”

An anonymous parent said: “I just hope something is done because this is not the first time I have heard that she has been like this towards students.

“It can have a real impact on their mental health and how they value themselves academically.”

A WDC spokesperson added: “The council expects the highest level of quality from all its employees and we will not comment on individual cases.”
