Blackburn Rovers fans pay ‘unfair’ £10 fee when buying tickets over the phone

Blackburn Rovers supporters must pay a £10 transaction fee on top of match tickets, as club bosses ‘battle rising operational costs’.

The club released details of ticket prices for the 2024/2025 season yesterday (May 22), with ‘reserve your place’ season tickets going on sale from 10am on Friday May 24. The club is introducing a £10 transaction fee for tickets purchased over the phone.

In addition to the £10 telephone transaction fee, anyone purchasing over the phone or in person will pay £2 more than the 2023/2024 season ticket price. Online ticket sales are also subject to a £2 transaction fee.

Ticket prices are classified into different price brackets, determined by the date and nature of the match. Adult Category A+ prices start from £32, Category A prices from £30, Category B prices from £25 and Category C prices from £20.

In an emailed update to season ticket holders, the club said: “In an effort to combat rising operational costs and to encourage supporters to engage with our digital strategy, transactions made by telephone and in person will incur an administration charge of £10. This charge does not apply per ticket purchased, but per transaction.

Long-time Rovers fan Dan Holmes no longer has a season ticket due to work. However, returning to his hometown, he supports his beloved club by buying a ticket to the match.

“A friend of mine usually gets me a ticket online, but there have been rare occasions where he’s had to call the ticket office,” Dan said. “One of my school friends has a season ticket, but from time to time he buys a match ticket for his son who is only eight years old, and the website does not allow you to buy a child ticket alone, so he must call.
