The Minot Police Department announced the return of “I was caught” summer safety program, which rewards local youth for wearing safety helmets while riding bikes, skateboards, scooters or rollerblades.

“The previous campaign always brought a bit of fun to patrolling in summer. » » said captain Justin Sundheim. “It’s fun to see the smile on a child’s face when a police officer catches him wearing his helmet and gives him his ‘I got caught’ quote. Honestly, some of the biggest smiles come from our officers.

With the end of the national program sponsored by AAA, the police department wanted to continue the program through a partnership with Jar+Cone, an ice cream parlor located in downtown Minot.

“We are grateful to Eric and his team at Jar+Cone for their invaluable support in making this program a reality locally. » said T Kvigne, public safety information and outreach manager for the City of Minot. “Jar+Cone is generously offering free ice cream to children our officers spotted wearing hard hats this summer, reinforcing our community’s commitment to safety. »
