Coronation Street’s Glenda Shuttleworth risks Rovers plan with huge mistake

Coronation Street spoilers follow.

Glenda Shuttleworth risked Rovers’ sale with an unfortunate mistake in Coronation Street.

We can’t blame Glenda for her reaction to some troubling events in Monday’s (August 7) episode, even if she made a big mistake in trying to hide her true feelings from the potential buyers, the Newtons.

Henry Newton and his father Phillip had been proposed as potential angel investors in the pub when current owner Jenny Connor fell on hard times.

In order to impress the Newtons, the Rovers team planned an impressive pub night where Glenda was to sing for potential buyers.

Unfortunately, Glenda lost her voice a few hours before the show. When it looked like Jenny’s attempt to save the pub had been ruined, Glenda announced she had hired singer Glyn Young to replace her.

The Newtons seemed pleased that Glenda had hired a last-minute replacement, but no one was prepared for Glyn to be a retiree with hearing aids.

With some trepidation, Glenda sent Glyn to launch the show and it proved to be an unexpected hit with pub-goers.

But trouble quickly arose when Phillip touched Glenda inappropriately during the festivities, and although she managed to slip away, she couldn’t help but share her disgust with Glyn backstage.

Unfortunately, Glenda didn’t know her microphone was still live, so the whole pub heard her complaining about the potential buyer manipulating her.

All hell started to break loose as Phillip became angry at the accusation. At the same time, an ambulance had to be called to the pub when Glyn suddenly had a health emergency.

Amid the chaos, Henry tried to be nice by explaining to Jenny that his family wouldn’t be able to buy the pub because the numbers just don’t make sense.

Henry assured Jenny that Glenda’s comments had no impact on the family’s decision and passed her details of a developer who might be interested in the property, suggesting the pub might be worth more in as apartments.

Will Jenny manage to save the pub?
