Charlotte Ascent announce dates for club’s first home games at American Legion Stadium – Queen City News

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) – Charlotte’s new professional women’s soccer club, launching this fall, has officially announced the dates for the first games.

The Charlotte Ascent of the United Soccer League will open play on Saturday, August 17, making their debut against the DC Power Football Club at American Legion Stadium.

“Carolina Ascent FC is honored to host the first-ever USL Super League match and open our inaugural season on home soil,” said Carolina Ascent FC head coach Philip Poole. “Our community is ready for professional women’s soccer and we are excited to welcome thousands of soccer fans to American Legion Memorial Stadium as together we rise and make history for the Carolinas, our city and the Super League USL.”

The Ascent’s inaugural season will feature a team coached by former DC United player Frédéric Brillant.

“Today’s announcement marks another major milestone for the USL Super League and our clubs, as our fans and players now have a concrete date to mark on their calendars,” said the USL Super League President. , Amanda Vandervort. “Kicking off in August, just after the conclusion of the Paris Olympics, reinforces the league’s vision of aligning with the global game. The league and our clubs are committed to providing a world-class experience for our fans and players, and we are excited to see the on-field action and off-the-field impact that each club has on its community.

The Ascent is one of eight teams featured in the new professional league featuring clubs from Tampa, D.C., Lexington, South Carolina, Spokane, Dallas, Fort Lauderdale and Brooklyn.
