Department of Communications and Engagement


SAN ANTONIO (May 23, 2024) — City Hall and most municipal offices will be closed on Monday, May 27, 2024, in observance of Memorial Day. Public safety and emergency services will remain operational. Other City services will operate as follows:

Police and firefighters

  • The police will be on duty
  • Fire and rescue personnel will be on duty

General services

  • The 3-1-1 call center will be operational from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. for urgent animal concerns and traffic light malfunctions.
  • Animal protection officers will be on duty
  • Code enforcement officers will be available for inspections and emergency coverage
  • Visitors to downtown parking will receive an on-street parking meter holiday (this does not apply to City-operated garages and off-street lots).
  • Pre-season pools will be open from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Monday, May 27, 2023.
  • City parks and trails will be open
  • Limited fitness and park classes will take place

Waste collection and deposit

  • Trash, recycling and organic materials will be collected according to regular collection schedules throughout the week.
  • The Bitters Brush location located at 1800 Wurzbach Parkway will be closed on Monday, May 27.
  • Bulky waste drop-off centers and household hazardous waste sites (Bitters, Frio City Rd., Rigsby and Culebra) will be closed on Monday, May 27.

The following facilities will be open to serve as cooling locations:

  • Library locations from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.:
    • Guerra Branch Library, 7978 W Military Drive
    • Igo Branch Library, 13330 Kyle Seale Drive
    • Westfall Branch Library, 6111 Rosedale Street

  • Some senior and community centers from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.:
    • Copernicus Community Center, 5003 Lord Road
    • Garza Community Center, 1450 Mira Vista
    • Miller’s Pond Community Center, 6075 Old Pearsall Road.
    • Normoyle Community Center and Senior Center, 700 Culberson Avenue
    • Northeast Senior Center, 4135 Thousand Oaks Drive
    • Southside Lions Senior Center, 3303 Pecan Valley Drive
    • Walker Ranch Senior Center, 835 W Rhapsody Drive
