'Don't consider opposition as my enemy': PM Modi to NDTV

Prime Minister Modi said he was open to criticism and constructive advice from experienced opposition leaders.

New Delhi:

In an exclusive interview with NDTV, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on a range of issues including opposition attacks, his development philosophy and the ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

Asked about criticism from opposition leaders, Prime Minister Modi said he did not consider them his enemies. He insisted on his intention to work in collaboration with opposition leaders.

“I never challenge them and I want to take them with me. I do not underestimate anyone. They have been the government for 60-70 years. I want to learn the good things they have done. I do not consider the opposition like the enemy,” Prime Minister Modi told NDTV.

Prime Minister Modi said he was open to criticism and constructive advice from experienced opposition leaders.

“If they have someone with experience who wants to advise me, I welcome it. They can say whatever they want to the media – good or bad, but if they have something to offer for the good of the country, I welcome them. I do not wish harm to anyone,” PM Modi said.

“I want to get rid of the ‘old mentality’. I cannot use the traditions and laws of the 18th century to build India’s future in the 21st century. I want to bring about change by reforming, implementing and transformative,” he added. .

PM Modi also responded to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s statement that June 4 (the election results day) would be the expiry date of the BJP-led government. “She is telling the truth. This government must end on June 4, then a new government must be formed. It is constitutional that the government’s mandate must end, there is nothing political about it. After the elections , a new government will be formed and we will form a new government,” he smiled.

Toh main avinashi hoon, toh main kashi ka hoon.. Kashi toh avinashi hai (I am indestructible, I am from Kashi (Varanasi), Kashi is indestructible).”

The Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases and the results are expected to be declared on June 4.
