Governor Ivey releases video message inviting Alabama students to participate in her summer reading challenge

MONTGOMERY – Governor Ivey released a video message today encouraging K-8 students to move forward.^th to participate in its summer reading initiative, the Governor Ivey Summer Reading Challenge. She continues to encourage student literacy in Alabama.

Governor Ivey invited students to join her in the challenge earlier this week. Further information regarding the challenge and student participation can be found here.

Alabama students – it’s Governor Kay Ivey!

As another school year comes to a close, I want to congratulate each of you for your hard work and dedication in the classroom.

Your efforts have really made me proud.

Now, as the summer holidays approach, I want to remind you that although it is the time to relax and enjoy some well-deserved relaxation, it is also the time to keep our minds active and engaged.

So what better way to do this than to pick up a good book?

Last year, many of you joined me for my Summer Reading Challenge.

I was amazed by the enthusiasm you brought to your reading adventures.

Well guess what?

He is back!

And I invite each of you to join me once again in my summer reading challenge!

Whether you’re delving into a thrilling mystery or exploring faraway lands, there’s a book waiting for you…and I want to know it all!

So here’s the challenge: if you’re an incoming K-8 student^th for the next school year, I want you to write me a letter this summer.

Tell me about your favorite summer reading book and why it captured your imagination.

My summer reading challenge starts now and ends July 31^stso don’t hesitate to send me your letters first!

I look forward to hearing from you and embarking on this literary adventure together all summer long.
