NEW DELHI: Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge has launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of silence over China’s alleged encroachment into Indian territory.

Addressing a rally in Himachal Pradesh’s Rohru, Kharge questioned the Prime Minister’s famous ’56-inch chest’, suggesting it seemed conspicuously absent amid China’s reported construction activities on Indian lands.

“We fought Pakistan and achieved independence for Bangladesh. Yet China is encroaching on our land, building houses and roads, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains silent. Where is the 56-inch chest?” Kharge asked rhetorically, attacking Modi’s perceived strongman image.

Besides criticizing Prime Minister Modi’s response to the alleged Chinese incursions, Kharge slammed the Center for its alleged negligence in providing aid to Himachal Pradesh following the devastating floods of 2023. According to Kharge, the demand from CM of Himachal Pradesh for an aid of Rs 10,000 crore resulted in negligible aid, symbolized by mere stones.

Kharge asserted that the Congress party presents itself as a guardian of the nation and its Constitution, committed to resolving critical issues such as vacancies in the government. He promised to fill 30 lakh government posts if the Congress is voted to power in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
