Consider This: The Man’s Perspective on Pregnancy-Related Topics

Reed Harris

My last article discussed pregnancy rates and why new laws, in many states, have been enacted to control women and their pregnancies. This article was written with women in mind. However, I promised that I would write the next one with men in mind. Now I keep that promise.

I hope the reversal of Roe v. Wade was not due, in part, to the fact that some husbands and other men wanted to keep women at home and out of the workforce. I’ve spoken with men who worry about their wives working and, sometimes, making more money. However, it seems to me that this is a very small number. Most agree with this, and some even stay home to play the role of housewife.

Hopefully the male chauvinist is a thing of the past. Yes, men have things they do better than a woman, but it should not be ignored that women have things they do better than men. We see other countries feeling the opposite, wanting to keep men and women “in their place.” When you think about it and explore the foundations of their beliefs, aren’t most of those beliefs based on religion? So if they are based on religion, why is a government getting involved in this? Just as it is up to us to decide which religion is best for us, is it not up to us to listen to our pastors, preachers, and other worshipers and then determine what we believe?

I’ve said it before and I’ll probably say it again: we’re all on this planet together. Whether we decide to join small groups of our fellow human beings to get through this is one thing. But we are all in the world together and must help each other whenever we can. This is the only way I can see producing a more meaningful, more fully engaged, happier life here. We will always come up against smaller groups who would like to take control of our lives, who do not see the big picture. Thank goodness we can see through this and move on.

So, should the male species be as involved as the females in his life and help turn the tide between Roe and Wade and push for changes to the laws in this country? Married people might wonder if their wife was pregnant and their doctor would tell them, “If your wife carries the baby until birth, she might lose her ability to have more children or might die, perhaps with your child. ” they would like ? And if so, why ? If you say you’re not interested, what alternative do you have in mind?

What burden does the government, federal or state, impose on itself and its citizens? The government is already very incapable of helping a child once they are born. In previous articles, I talked about some of our laws that proposed reducing or eliminating support for children and families. Our public school system is deteriorating, in part because our money goes to other non-public schools of all kinds. This is partly because the previous administration appointed a Secretary of Education who believed nonpublic schools were the future. Does this help your child, our children?

What about children born into poverty? Without any help, what would their lives be like? Will the government change its mind and start caring? There is a very good chance that this will happen, but it is up to us to determine whether this will be the future. Most of these issues of control over women, children and education could be avoided with an open government that is not afraid to let us decide. Which government do you think would help? Not just the 1% of us who really don’t need help, but all of us?

What about women who are forced to carry their babies to term but whose husbands have left? Or, forgive me for saying this, those who were raped? Young or old, if they are forced to carry these children until birth, who will help them? If they are too young to live on their own, do their parents care enough, or even have enough means, to help them? When a father leaves, how successful is the government in ensuring that fathers help him? How can they help a rapist if and when he is arrested? He will be imprisoned, as he should be. But will the government then take over for the child?

So when we talk about the need to carry babies to term, how can we avoid this requirement in the first place? We are seeing changes in laws that would allow the mother to prevent the birth of a baby from the start. Birth control is shunned. Medications to be taken at the time of conception are shunned. What will the government say in the future to a woman who wants to have her tubes tied? Will the government also prevent men from having vasectomies? Will condoms be removed from shelves? I still think there’s a very good chance of preventing all of these things, but again, that’s up to us to determine.

When it comes to the freedoms we have, whether we are men or women, we are on the verge of losing it all. There is a political party that is very good at blocking, even stopping, the progress we have made and even any future progress. For at least 16 years, they have ensured that our progress is limited. When asked, they say the other side is the problem and they are the answer. When this is done, it becomes very easy to try to manipulate a citizenry that is frustrated and ready to tear their hair out. This is a simple repeat of previous governments trying to do the same. It has already worked. Will it work again?

No party is perfect. I don’t think we would want that. Eutopia isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. But, in this day and age, we have seen a party that is almost insufficiently trying to change our culture at all costs. Can we prevent our freedoms from being taken away?
