A man who bought chicken breasts from two different stores was shocked to learn how different they can be from each other.

Kalani Smith, known as Kalani Ghost Hunter on social media, posted a TikTok video on May 21, he was comparing chicken breasts that he had purchased from WalmartPerdue and at his local butcher in Tennessee.

The Ghostbuster picked up each of the unopened packages of chicken breast before showing viewers the scale he would use to weigh each chicken breast and determine the difference between the pieces of poultry from each other.

The video of Smith’s “scary” discovery has been viewed more than a million times and more than 5,000 TikTokers have left comments.

He immediately pointed out some differences between the chicken breasts before taking them out of the package.

“Visually you can see there is a huge difference between what we get at our local butcher on a farm and what they give us at Walmart,” Smith said.

Pointing out the small words on Walmart’s packaging, it said its chicken breast could contain “up to 5 percent water.”

From that note, Smith, best known for his food-themed and ghost-hunting videos on social media, decided to take a piece of chicken breast from each brand and weigh it on a scale .

A chicken breast from a package he bought at his local Tennessee butcher shop weighs 187 grams on a scale, while the others weighed more than 300.

Smith first took the largest chicken breast from his local butcher’s shop and carefully put it on the scales, before revealing that the farm’s fresh chicken breast weighed 187 grams.

The Ghostbuster then removed a piece of Walmart chicken breast, but revealed he would have to cut some of it off to make the results “as accurate as possible.”

The TikToker was almost speechless after seeing that the weight of the Walmart chicken breast after cutting it came to 392 grams.

Smith switched to Perdue chicken breast, which he said was “supposed to be a little better quality than Walmart.”

However, his jaw dropped as soon as he found out that the Perdue chicken breast weighed 347 grams.

“If you compare the percentage difference between the smallest breast we have and the largest, it’s 109.6 percent bigger at Walmart than at our butcher,” Smith said.

“Perdue’s brisket is a little smaller, and it’s 85.56 percent bigger than our butcher’s brisket, but 5 percent was supposed to be water.”

Smith’s “alarming” discovery comes a month after Walmart faced a multimillion-dollar settlement for inflating the weight of meat in its packaging.

Customers could get a refund on multiple chicken purchases, including 10 kinds of chicken breast products.

“We will continue to offer our customers everyday low prices to help them save money on the products they want and need,” a Walmart spokesperson told CNBC last month.

“We still deny the allegations, but we believe a settlement is in the best interest of both parties.”

Various TikTokers who watched Smith’s video decried its alarming results.

The discovery of the chicken came just a month after Walmart faced a multimillion-dollar settlement after the chain was accused of inflating its meat products.

“The butcher looks like a normal chicken. The rest look like giant freak chicken monsters,” one TikToker wrote on May 21.

At least two TikTokers joked that the extra weight in Walmart and Perdue chicken breasts was “growth hormones.”

However, one person wrote about why chicken breasts could hold so much weight.

“It’s injected with water and preservatives that make it bigger, but once cooked, a lot of water is released,” the TikToker wrote.

Others agree with this commenter and noted that a heavier chicken will cost more.

“You should definitely cook them all at once and weigh them afterward,” one TikToker suggested in their comment.

“I bet those fat ones lose a lot of weight, but the butchers won’t lose as much.”
