Police officer caught in corruption in J&K

Srinagar: A police officer was on Friday arrested red-handed by the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) while accepting bribe, officials said.

Officials said an ACB team caught the SHO of Pantha Chowk police station red-handed as he demanded and accepted the bribe. The policeman allegedly demanded a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to settle a case and was apprehended by the ACB, the officials added.

The ACB sleuths allegedly recovered cash amounting to Rs 1.5 lakh and a check of Rs 50,000 from the possession of the arrested police officer in the presence of independent witnesses, the officials said.
