Bears give insider access to their 2024 NFL Draft war room – NBC Sports Chicago

In the latest edition of the Bears’ YouTube series “1920 Football Drive,” they recap the offseason leading up to the 2024 NFL Draft.

The video joins a trend of NFL teams giving fans special access to the war room during the draft. Viewers see it all for the Bears, including their conversations leading up to drafting Caleb Williams and Rome Odunze, as well as Ryan Poles’ classic reaction to Falcons draft Michael Penix Jr.

There were also many comedic moments. Scout Ryan Weese probably typed “Caleb Williams” into the Bears draft card. The Poles responded with a hilarious quip.

“You’re just assuming, huh?”

Then the tension rises. Poles admitted to the media after the draft that he almost jumped on a trade to try to get Odunze, but Ian Cunningham stopped him. You can feel the tension and see the nervousness in the room as they wait for the teams ahead of them to choose.

After the Titans chose JC Latham, the Poles showed a big smile. Cunningham informed him that they had a 77% chance that Odunze would land at their feet. After Penix Jr.’s pick — which shocked everyone in the room — the war room began the hugs and high-fives.

The Poles and the audience were stunned not to have to exchange. Clearly, they were willing to shell out capital to make this happen. But it worked exactly as they had written it.

For the rest of the draft, viewers can watch the room make decisions on the rest of the picks, including returning to the draft against Kansas’ advantage Austin Booker. It’s a fascinating video.

In the end, Poles concluded the draft with a great recap speech for his team.

“I want to thank everyone,” said the Poles. “It was one of the best draft experiences I’ve ever had. But that’s because of all the hard work everyone put in. Well prepared, and that’s how it was supposed to be happen. And obviously, in the end, we had to make some moves to finish strong. But I just want to thank everyone for the time they put into picking a few guys.
