BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – West Shore Jr./Sr. Suhina Mitra, a junior in high school, was selected by the Peter R. Marsh Foundation as this year’s recipient of the National Silent Servant Scholarship Award for her dedication to volunteering in her community.

The purpose of the Peter R. Marsh Foundation is to identify and recognize an honored student who voluntarily provides invaluable service to others within his or her community through his or her selflessness and generosity.

The scholarship is awarded to public high school students nationwide who demonstrate empathy and compassion by volunteering in their communities.

The Peter R. Marsh Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Camas, Washington, gives this award to honor students for their kindness, behavior and set of values that will support their families and communities during decades.

Mitra has extensive experience in being involved and selflessly giving to her local and school community. As the Children’s Home Society of Central Florida’s first Youth Ambassador since 2021, she embodies humanitarianism and the importance of helping others every day.

Through an online campaign, Mitra raised over $20,000 to improve STEM activities at Endeavor Elementary, a high-poverty, low-performing school in our district.

She worked with Endeavor students by leading a STEM camp and mentoring students. One of the students she supervised last summer was able to resume her academic career by increasing two grades thanks to her work with Mitra.

This success inspired Mitra to create a West Shore Children’s Home Society club, where club members can follow in Mitra’s footsteps by giving back to our community at Endeavor and other Title One schools. Mitra is also an active volunteer with Who We Play For, a cardiac screening group that tests young people before participating in sports.

As president of the West Shore chapter of the Health Professions Student Association, Mitra has expanded her membership, and members now actively challenge themselves to become competitive members of the West Shore team for competitions State HOSA while also providing CPR training opportunities at its school.

Mitra supervises middle school students who then participate in the Math Counts competition.
