Almost all Eastern Ontario school buses canceled by storm

Almost all Eastern Ontario school buses canceled by storm

A messy end to the weekend has more school buses remaining parked in the Ottawa-Gatineau region Monday.

Areas north and east of Gatineau received a snowfall warning until around 11 a.m. A winter travel advisory for Ottawa and surrounding communities, including Gatineau, ended after 9 a.m.

For this reason, almost all school buses in Eastern Ontario are canceled, including in Ottawa. Check with schools or school boards for more information on what is currently happening.

French and English buses operate closer to Lake Ontario in communities like Kingston and Trenton.

Most service centers in western Quebec remain closed due to the indefinite strike. Of those that are open, none have announced any changes.

Ottawa also imposes a winter parking ban for most people on most streets, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Gatineau has a new interactive map showing its snow removal progress.

The 511 service in Quebec indicates that, around 9 a.m., main local roads were generally snow-covered with fair to good visibility. Route 148 had been cleared west of Gatineau.

In Ontario, roads where buses were canceled were partially or entirely covered in snow and 511 people noted poor visibility around Eganville and Barry’s Bay.

According to the advisory, the snow was expected to end this morning after leaving behind high forecasts of around 15 centimeters.

Snowfall and winter storm warnings have already been issued in Ottawa.

The international airport recorded about 12 millimeters of rain on Sunday before a centimeter of snow, with snow continuing into early Monday.

The City of Gatineau indicated at 10:30 a.m. that it had measured 14 centimeters so far.

Monday’s high in Ottawa is 0°C, the overnight low is –5°C, and Tuesday’s high appears to be –2°C under cloudy skies.
