20-year-old student found dead in her room after COVID-19 diagnosis

A student was found dead in her university room where she was in quarantine after testing positive for coronavirus.

Bethany Nesbitt, 20, was discovered on Friday (local time) in the halls of Grace College in the US state of Indiana, according to a university statement.

The coroner said she had an undetected blocked artery in her lungs and that her Covid-19 diagnosis contributed to her death.

His brother, sports journalist Stephen Nesbitt, shared a family statement on Twitter, adding that “their hearts are broken.”

After falling ill, she was treated by her mother because she had asthma and was later diagnosed with the virus.

The family revealed that doctors told them she had contracted a mild case of the virus after her oxygen levels dropped.

She returned to her dorm to isolate and then told her family she was virus-free for 24 hours. It was tested on October 29, but the results were not immediately used.

“That night, Bethany watched Netflix and went to bed. She was found deceased at 10 a.m.,” the statement said.

The family said Bethany knew returning to college for this term was a risk, but was determined to continue her education.

They urged younger generations not to assume they will not be affected by the virus.

“Bethany was careful. She wore a mask. She has been socially distancing,” Bethany’s family said.

“This loss is eternal. We implore you to take this virus seriously.

Bethany was the youngest of nine children and was scheduled to graduate in May. She planned to become a specialist in the lives of sick and disabled children.
