APC accuses Obasanjo of constant attacks on all regimes after him and describes the ex-president’s criticism of Tinubu as unfair

The ruling All Progressives Congress has slammed former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s criticism of the current administration’s handling of its ongoing reforms and the coup in the Niger Republic.

Obasanjo had rejected President Bola Tinubu’s implementation of the removal of subsidies on petroleum products as well as the floating of the naira.

Over the past few months, the masses have continued to complain about the rising cost of food and inflation following the removal of fuel subsidies and floating of the naira by the Tinubu government.

In a statement delivered to journalists by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Sunday, Obasanjo said that while the policies initiated by Tinubu were necessary, they were poorly implemented.

The former president, according to the press release, spoke this weekend in Abuja at a symposium entitled: “Nigeria’s development: emerging from the current economic crisis and insecurity. »

“Today, the government has made three decisions, two of which are necessary but poorly implemented and have led to the impoverishment of the economy and Nigerians. These are the removal of subsidies, reducing the gap between the black market and official exchange rates, and the third is the military coup in the Niger Republic,” Obasanjo said.

It was the first time he openly criticized Tinubu, whom he had not supported to become president.

But reacting on Monday, APC national director Bala Ibrahim criticized Obasanjo, whom he described as a serial critic.

Ibrahim told reporters he feared the former president was showing signs of old age.

He said: “As a Nigerian and someone who respects Obasanjo, I think senility is starting to show. Obasanjo begins to show symptoms.

“Since he lost his candidacy for a third term, he has continued to attack all the regimes that succeed him. He considers himself the only one who had good intentions for Nigeria since its independence to date. He thinks he is the best and all other leaders are bad. And that’s not good for a statesman. No one has a monopoly on knowledge or leadership style.

“Obasanjo has been consistent in his criticism of people in leadership positions besides himself. So this is not an isolated case. President Bola Tinubu is not the first to be attacked by Obasanjo. Buhari and Jonathan were also victims of his criticism. He himself didn’t fare any better when he was the leader. In fact, Obasanjo oversaw the balkanization of the Nigerian economy.

“How can he say that someone who is trying to put the economy on a better pedestal is not doing the right thing? I am not a spokesperson for Tinubu. Although the party has discussed it to the best of my knowledge, I almost feel that Obasanjo made a mistake, as he always did.
