Presidents of Russia and Uzbekistan consider peace and stability in Afghanistan a priority

Vladimir Putin and Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the presidents of Russia and Uzbekistan, have considered achieving peace and stability in Afghanistan a priority.

The TASS news agency reported on Monday that this issue was highlighted in the joint statement of Putin and Mirziyoev during the Russian president’s visit to Uzbekistan.

In the joint statement, it was stated that the countries’ leaders consider achieving peace and stability in Afghanistan a priority due to their significant impact on the security of Central Asia and neighboring regions.

According to the report, the two countries intend to coordinate their efforts within the framework of the Moscow Format, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and other mechanisms with the aim of achieving concrete results to resolve the situation in Afghanistan.

Both sides also positively assessed the first meeting of the working group for the development of the transport corridor between Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

Putin arrived in Uzbekistan on Sunday evening for a two-day visit.

This is Putin’s third trip abroad since the start of his fifth presidential term.

His first and second trips during his new presidential term were to China and Belarus.
