Woman shot dead while trying to prevent neighbor’s vehicle from being burglarized

ZACHARY — A woman is recovering after being shot multiple times while trying to stop a vehicle burglary.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, in the 4800 block of East Central Avenue near Main Street in Zachary.

Police Chief Darryl Lawrence said UKK that officers responded to a call of a shooting and upon arrival found a suspect shooting at vehicle doors in the area. As the suspect attempted to open the doors of a specific home on East Central Ave., a neighbor confronted him in an attempt to stop the alleged burglary.

“The citizen was shot three times, but his injuries are not life-threatening,” Chief Lawrence said. “We advise our citizens not to confront anyone.”
