BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – On May 4, Cocoa police rescued a child from a near-drowning at Oak Meadows Pool.

Last week, the child and his family stopped a patrol vehicle in the neighborhood and asked the officer if the child could meet the officers who saved him.

Without hesitation, Officers Kyle McNamara and Paul Noland were called.

They were the ones on duty at the time of the request, and they went to see the child.

“With the body camera recording, it was one of those special moments that we love to share,” a Cocoa police spokesperson said.

“When we think about how tragic the near-drowning call could have been and we witness, just under 3 weeks later, a special reunion, there are simply no words to describe the joy it brings us. We are so grateful to have been able to make a difference for this family.

André, the child who was rescued, now says he wants to one day become a police officer or a firefighter.

“We look forward to hiring him,” a Cocoa police spokesperson said.
