Shocking video shows students playing with BB gun outside Northwestern HS in Hyattsville – NBC4 Washington

Young people captured in a shocking new video could be seen playing with what looks like a gun outside a high school in Hyattsville, Maryland.

The video, shot by Telemundo 44, shows what appear to be teenagers casually playing with a BB gun in some woods not far from the Northwestern High School campus.

The video was filmed after some community members raised concerns about safety in the neighborhood.

At least one neighbor of a nearby townhouse complex has expressed concerns that a hole in the fence between the new townhouses and Northwestern High has led to it being used as a walkway for students, causing problems including crime.

Despite the proximity to the high school, News4 does not yet know if the video shows any students. The subjects appear to be teenagers.

The video is disturbing and shows a group of youths handling a gun and, in one case, pointing the gun at each other.

The weapon is black, and given the distance at which the video was shot by our sister station Telemundo 44, there is no indication that it is not a real weapon.

The video was taken at 1 p.m., during school hours.

Hyattsville police were called and officers arrested a 16-year-old.

Police told News4 they very quickly determined the weapon was a BB gun. They also said the case is being reviewed by the Prince George’s County State’s Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed.

It is illegal to bring a BB gun onto school grounds.

However, due to where the incident occurred, it is difficult to say whether it actually happened on school grounds or right next to it.

A community meeting has been held next week at Hyattsville City Hall to address neighbors’ safety concerns.
