Three Air New Zealand regional planes were struck by lightning earlier today and are currently being examined by engineering teams to ensure they are safe to fly, the airline said.

Airports CEO Kate Boyer says they are monitoring the weather closely.

The airline’s services were briefly disrupted this afternoon when wind conditions made operations at Auckland Airport unsafe.

Twenty-four regional services have been canceled and customers are being redirected to the next available service to get them to their destination.
