Free Adult Mental Health First Aid course offered at Pen Bay Medical Center

ROCKPORT — A free Adult Mental Health First Aid class is offered Monday, June 17, 2024, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at the Pen Bay Medical Center Physicians Building, Conference Room C, 4 Glen Cove Drive, Rockport .

Adult Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is a skills-based training that teaches people how to identify, understand and respond to the signs and symptoms of a mental health or substance use problem in adults aged 18 years and older. MHFA helps people help someone in crisis until professional assistance arrives or the crisis is resolved.

The course will teach you to apply the PSSM Action Plan (ALGEE):

 Assess risk of suicide or harm.
 Listen without judgment.
 Provide comfort and information.
 Encourage appropriate professional help.
 Encourage self-help and other support strategies.
